Spirulina

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows naturally around the world. Once harvested by the Aztecs in Mexico as a major food source, spirulina contains a range of nutrients, including protein, B vitamins, copper, iron and magnesium, each of which has its own role in the body.

What does the research say about Spirulina?

Spirulina is a source of antioxidants. Its blue pigment, C-phycocyanin, has been studied for its antioxidant activity and its effect on 'oxidative stress', which is when there are more free radicals in the body than it can neutralise.
