Quick read

How to get Omega 3 from your diet?

Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel or trout are the best source of Omega 3. Omega 3 can be found in a variety of plant food sources, however, it is difficult to gain sufficient quantities on a plant-based diet. Good plant sources of Omega 3 include flax seeds & flax seed oil, walnuts and walnut oil, chia seeds, hemp seeds and hemp oil.

Broccoli also contains omega 3, however, you would need to eat a lot of broccoli if you were going to rely on it as your primary source! As a result, a Vegan Omega 3 supplement is often the best choice for those who don't eat fish or follow a vegetarian or plant-based diet.

How to take it?

  1. Take 2 softgels each day

Take two softgels daily, with or without food.

  2. Take consistently

Omega 3 is built into your cell membranes, which renew gradually. It should be taken daily over the long term.

  3. Adjust when needed

Both softgels can be taken together or split across the day. Taking them with a meal containing some fat improves absorption.

How it works?

Our Vegan Omega 3 provides 1,000mg of algal oil delivering 550mg of omega 3, with 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA, for your brain, heart and vision.

Your body cannot make omega 3, so it has to come from what you eat. On a plant-based diet that gap is wider than in other people, and it is the single most common nutritional shortfall.

Why your body needs it

Omega 3 is a structural fat, built directly into the membrane of every cell you have, and the membrane is what determines how well a cell communicates with the ones around it.

Omega 3 works in balance with omega 6, another fat your body needs. The ratio that suits us is 2:1, but modern diets can run closer to 15:1, because omega 6 is abundant in vegetable oils and processed food while omega 3 is not. Our Omega 3 corrects that balance.

Your brain

Your brain is nearly 60% fat by dry weight, and DHA is the most abundant omega 3 in it, concentrated in the membranes of the cells that fuel your thoughts, concentration, and memory.

DHA is clinically proven to support your brain function, and our Vegan Omega 3 provides 300mg per daily dose, above the 250mg dose of clinical trials. Because DHA is built into cell membranes rather than used up, the effect comes from sustained intake rather than any single dose.

Your vision

Your retina has the highest concentration of DHA of any tissue in your body.

DHA is vital for normal vision. This is also why eyes and brain tend to be discussed together when it comes to omega 3: the retina is essentially an extension of the brain.

Your heart

Omega 3 and heart health is one of the most studied relationships in nutrition.

EPA and DHA together support a healthy heart function. Our Vegan Omega 3 provides 450mg of EPA and DHA combined, comfortably above the researched levels of 250mg.

Why algae, not fish

Fish do not make omega 3. They get it from eating algae, or from eating other fish that ate algae, so the fish is the middle step rather than the source.

We take our Omega 3 directly from algae grown in controlled conditions. That means no heavy metals or ocean contaminants, no fishy smell or repeat, no pressure on marine ecosystems, and an oil far less prone to going rancid than fish oil is. Vitamin E is included to protect the oil itself as well as your cells from oxidative stress.

The questions people
actually have!

What is the best omega 3 supplement?

The BBC Good Food Guide review os 'Best Omega-3 supplements 2025, tried and tested', published in November 2025, rated DRV+ (Formerly DR.VEGAN®) Vegan Omega 3 as 'Highly Recommended' and 'Best budget-friendly vegan Omega-3'.

With a star rating of 5/5 and tested for taste, texture, source of Omega-3, form of Omega-3, purity, sustainability, nutrient profile, additives, and value for money, the independent reviewers commented "Softgels are small and smooth, so taking them each day is effortless. The plastic-free, home-compostable pouch is sturdy and reseals securely. There’s a faint seaweed scent, but no taste, so they don’t repeat later. Each dose supplies EPA and DHA from a sustainable algal source, plus vitamin E for freshness. They’re fully vegan and allergen-free, making them suitable for many diets. At roughly 73p per day, they deliver good quality and reassurance for anyone avoiding fish-based omega-3."

How much omega 3 can I take?

Our Vegan Omega 3 is made up of 1000mg algae oil which provides 550mg of Omega 3, 300mg EPA and 150mg DHA per serving. The official recommendation for Omega 3 daily consumption is 250mg per day of combined EPA and DHA.  However, algae oil has a higher DHA content which is why our supplement has 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA.

A registered nutritional therapist may prescribe a higher dose of Omega 3 as a therapeutic dose short term but it is never wise to increase the dosage of any supplements without consulting a doctor.
